Portugal não conseguiu o apuramento, mas os dois atletas lusos conseguiram destacar-se no EuroHockey, ao serem considerados os melhores marcadores da competição, ambos com 10 golos apontados. Os atletas emblemas na Alemanha, David Franco representa o Gladbach HTC e o lousadense Vasco Ribeiro o Club Zur Vahr. Os atletas portugueses voltaram a destacar-se na equipa das quinas, e foram o motor dos golos apontados pela seleção.
